Replace drive belt and pulleys

The drive belt and pulleys are connected to the main motor and makes the paddles in the drum rotate, moving the coffee around inside the drum.

When to replace the drive belt and pulleys

The drive belt might get worn out by time or with improper alignment of the pulleys. You will notice this if you hear a clicking sound from the belt. This clicking sound will be at even intervals.

  • Make sure the roaster is turned off before starting any maintenance work.

  • The power cord must be unplugged or the roaster fully isolated from the electrical supply before removing any panels.

  • Read the instructions in full before starting work, and follow the steps as instructed below

Tools required

  • Flat-head screwdriver, coin, or similar to open front door
  • 2 mm hex key
  • 2.5 mm hex key
  • 3 mm hex key
  • 5 mm hex key
  • Narrow-nosed pliers

Instructions

Open the front door and remove the starboard side panel

Remove the old drive belt and pulleys

Move the main motor driver out of the way and place it to the side.

Use a 3 mm hex key to remove the 3 bolts holding the belt cover in place: 1 on top and 2 at the bottom.

Remove the belt cover and set it aside.

Use a 5 mm hex key to loosen the 2 bolts on the belt tensioner.

Remove the old drive belt.

Remove the pulleys

Use a 2 mm hex key to loosen the grub screw on the lower pulley. Slide the pulley off the shaft. If stuck, loosen the grub screw further.

Repeat this process for the upper pulley using a 2 mm hex key.

If the existing drive keys do not fit the new pulleys, pull them off with narrow-nosed pliers and install the new drive keys.

Install the new pulleys

Slide the lower pulley onto the shaft until it sits flush with the shaft.

Fasten the grub screw using a 2 mm hex key.

Install the upper pulley.

Fit the drive belt around the lower pulley first, then route it over the upper pulley. Rotate the upper pulley by hand to help guide the tight belt into position.

Align the upper pulley directly above the lower pulley, leaving a small space between the pulley and the alignment collar.

Tighten the grub screw using a 2 mm hex key.

Align the belt and tighten the 2 bolts on the belt tensioner using a 5 mm hex key. Proper belt tension allows you to twist the belt 90 degrees using your fingers.

Reinstall the belt cover and the main motor driver.

Finish up

Replace the side panels and secure with the four bolts.

Close the front door.
